Reason.com has a great little graphic on the various procedures for US Immigration up today, so great in fact that Rachel Maddow liked it. First, here is the graphic:
As you can see, the process of legal immigration is a bit convoluted, rewarding those who are wealthy and famous, while kinda making things hard for everyone else (even if you have a ‘valuable’ skill). Even if you are wealthy and famous, it can still take YEARS to legally immigrate to the US. In some instances, it can even take DECADES before the process can be completed. So what’s my take on this? As I’ve gotten older, I’ve slowly learned to appreciate the positives of immigration. While not every immigrant is a Nobel winning engineer or doctor, many of them are willing to do the labor that many established Americans may not want to do, like farming, landscaping, etc. Furthermore, they are willing to do so at a lower pay. This brings me to my next point:
The major problems with illegal immigration have nothing to do with the immigrants themselves
