Sappy BS from the Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Using emotion to leverage legislation which would have accomplished NOTHING in stopping the Sandy Hook Massacre.
Sigh.

Dear MaddMedic,
Thank you for writing me about the debate over gun policy after Sandy Hook. I appreciate hearing from you on this important topic. I was deeply saddened by the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut that took the lives of innocent children and brave school administrators. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, survivors, and their families. Unfortunately, tragic shootings like the one at Sandy Hook Elementary School are not uncommon. We lose more than thirty people every day as a result of gun violence.
I have always supported the Second Amendment rights of Minnesotans to own firearms for collection, protection, and sport. After the tragedy at Sandy Hook, I travelled across Minnesota to meet with constituents and hear their ideas about reducing gun violence. What I have learned is that we can honor Minnesota’s proud tradition of responsible gun ownership while taking some reasonable…

With falling approval ratings in the wake of the emergency passage of the SAFE ACT, and the NY Senates decision to suspend the centerpiece 7 round magazine limitation, Gov. Cuomo is trying to save his own skin by blaming NYC Mayor Bloomberg’s gun control lobby, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, for the poorly written legislation. The Truth About Guns reports that:
Cuomo is trying to shift blame for the shoddily worded law to Mayor Bloomberg and the Brady Campaign, saying that they drafted most of the legislation and he didn’t read it. Just like the rest of the NY Legislature didn’t read it before it was hastily crammed down the throats of New Yorkers…
If that’s the truth, then this appears to be some interesting friendly fire among those who provide support for more gun control.
Bring out the popcorn, this is going to get interesting.

Jim Carrey goes off the rails… this guy is a hypocrite, calling for gun control while he has armed security, calling for compassion while insulting American gun owners, and saying they’re responsible for a culture of violence while he play Captain Stars n’ Stripes in the new Kick Ass Movie… a character who… wait for it: uses guns to bring about justice!

NRA CEO and Vice President Wayne LaPierre has to bow out or find someone else to be the figurehead of the largest pro-gun lobby in the United States. Time after time, he misses the mark in the debate on our civil rights and neglects the deeper philosophical issues surrounding the 2nd Amendment.
The NRA needs someone with a strong libertarian belief system and the intellect to bring their guns to bear in a discussion than what Wayne has been able to provide. The NRA can’t simply be the party of “anti-gun control”. It needs to be the party of pushing gun rights in the other direction. Gun owners in the United States are tired of so-called “compromises” which feel more like giving ground. They want to re-take what they lost, and then some. The NRA needs a leader who will exemplify this, and do so in the best PR way possible.
